Normative Instruction 1,761 introduced a new obligation called Declaration of Operations Settled in Currency (DME). DME applies to individuals and entities that receive BRL 30,000.00 or more in cash from the same individual or entity in any given month. Cash received from different persons exceeding this amount in total, but not individually, are not subject to reporting.
The DME must be filled through the Federal Revenue website until the last business day of the month after the transaction. The DME can only be transmitted through digital certificate access. Delays to submit DME are subject to penalties of BRL 1,500 per month for legal entities in general and BRL 100 per month for individuals.
The DME enters into force on January 1st, 2018.
