On Wednesday (29), the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided, through Direct Unconstitutionality Action 3937, to declare the unconstitutionality of article 2 of Federal Law 9,055/95.
As a result, the extraction, industrialization, commercialization and use of asbestos of the chrysotile variety (white asbestos) in all the national territory is prohibited.
The decision of the STF has not been made available, thus, is not possible to know if the Court will establish specific procedures and/or time to comply with the decision for those enterprises which already use asbestos.
